Whirlwind Trip to New York

My mom's birthday is in July and I decided to take a quick trip up to New York to spend some time with them (and get away from the Texas heat). Here is a mini photo essay of what I saw:

The airport in Dallas had this cereal concession stand. I have never seen anything like this (though I do enjoy eating cereal).

This is the house I grew up in. It's in Old Bethpage, right near the golf course where the US Open was held this year. My brother hangs out with the groundskeepers. I met two of them Friday night and kept thinking of Caddyshack or Groundskeeper Willie.

Here is a photo of my mom's hydrangeas. They are one of my favorite flowers. We used to call them snowballs when we were kids.

Here is a photo of my mom and dad. We were at a luncheon for my folk's stroke survivor support group. Dad had a stroke 14 years ago. My kids were so young so they don't remember my father when he was mobile and verbal.

I was sitting next to my mom. On the right side of me, was seated this woman, Mary Ann. I stopped dead in my tracks when I got a look at her nails. And she was very proud to tell me that they were real. You know I had to ask her for a photo! Then across the table there was a volunteer named, Gert. She was 98 years old!!!! I think she does stuff like take take attendance and make name tags. No heavy lifting for her!

On the airplane, to and from NY, I worked on some socks. I started a pair from the new book Sock Innovation by Cookie A. I am making the Glynis sock in a green sock yarn from that saucy Tess yarns. I had a hard time centering the motif for the foot, So I got practical for once and decided to leave the foot of the sock plain. Please don't tell Cookie.

There was an issue with this yarn. It was crocking off on my tension finger(index) something awful. I had better soak the completed socks in some vinegar or my feet will become all blue and yucko.

That's all she wrote. I am so glad to be home with my gang.
